Job Description
St Helens Council is inviting applications for a full time, permanent childcare solicitor.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding legal team and provide key support to our client department.

We are a busy, friendly and well supported legal team situated in the Merseyside area with good transport links to surrounding areas. We have embraced new ways of working and the role will predominantly feature hybrid working, offering a high level of flexibility, allowing staff to take control of their work/life balance.

The role will cover a wide and varied case load of child protection and safeguarding matters, including pre-proceedings, care proceedings, discharge proceedings, deprivation of liberty and general advice.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of childcare cases and advising on all aspects of law relevant to Child Protection and Safeguarding, including associated advocacy in the Family Court. Advocacy experience is therefore desirable.

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives with experience of, or an interest in, advising in relation to children’s safeguarding matters. Whether you are newly qualified or have significant experience of child protection from a career in the public or private sector, we are interested to hear from you.

We encourage applications from all sections of the community to enable us to represent the neighbourhoods in which we serve.

Council employees are required to abide by the ethical standards embodied by the 7 NOLAN principles of conduct in public life. These include selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
