Job Description

Hours: 25 hours per week (term-time + 5 days, 8:30 - 1:30)

Our Governors are looking to appoint a proactive and motivated Attendance Officer to join our friendly and caring pastoral team who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children in a supportive setting. The successful candidate will support the SLT with ensuring the best possible learning outcomes for all our children in a patient, positive, caring, and effective way.

Experience of working within a school setting or in a pastoral role supporting children with specific barriers to learning would be of benefit but is not essential.

In addition, you must have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and have a desire to enhance your skills further through professional development.

You will need good interpersonal skills to build great relationships with our children, families and staff, as well as the ability to use various IT systems to record and manage data – although training will be provided for this.

The role will consist of all areas linked to attendance including:
• Daily monitoring and updating of registers.
• Phone calls and home visits to families relating to attendance concerns in line with our First Day response system.
• Preparing and analysing data to share with various agencies in relation to attendance.
• Striving to improve the attendance of vulnerable groups of pupils, in order to improve overall attendance and punctuality.
• Sharing attendance information and expectations across the school community to ensure attendance is consistently tackled and supportive measures are put in place.
• Accurately dealing with requests for leave of absence for exceptional circumstances and maintaining the relevant paperwork connected to these.
• Working in collaboration with the Pastoral Team to prepare attendance reports for agency meetings as requested.
• Supporting the senior leadership in improving attendance and punctuality of pupils.

The Governing Body are looking for someone who will:
• Have a good knowledge of attendance strategies in primary schools.
• Have experience of supporting children with barriers to learning.
• Be hardworking and flexible.
• Can relate well to children and adults across the school.
• Establish good relationships within the school team and the wider school community.
• Provide excellent support to all pupils.
• Support the inclusive ethos of the school.
• Have good numeracy/literacy skills.
• Can demonstrate initiative and good time management.
