A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Sensory Support Worker to join TESSA - Vision & Hearing Support.
You will be working as part of an outreach education support service with specialist teachers, providing direct support to the children and young people with vision impairments and/or who may have hearing loss.
TESSA – Vision Support require you to be experienced with braille and be able to adapt the secondary curriculum accordingly. Or you may have had experience brailling in primary school but are willing to learn quickly to support our young people in Year 7 and Year 8.
Your day-to-day work will be varied and dynamic. You could be working in homes with very young children, or providing education support in nurseries, schools or colleges. You could also be supporting their parents or carers with any questions or challenges they may face.
This role will offer you an opportunity to work within a wide multi-professional environment and will provide opportunities for creative and innovative working. A willingness and ability to work collaboratively, flexibly and with initiative are essential. A good sense of humour is always welcomed!
This role requires you to:
• Manage your own diary and case load, travelling between settings, schools, home and our office bases
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as good IT knowledge
• To provide education support and be able to braille and adapt work for children who are blind
• Have the confidence to liaise effectively with a range of professionals across education, health and social care
• Have a good understanding of SEND statutory processes e.g., EHCPs
• Have a good knowledge and understanding of sensory impairments, child development and the possible impact of special educational needs and disability on a child or young person
• Be passionate about improving holistic outcomes for our children and young people
