Job Description
We Are St Helens Borough Council

Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.

Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

Making A Difference as an ACL Support Worker
St Helens Adult and Community Learning Service (ACL) has an exciting opportunity for a sessional Support Worker in the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) department.

The ACL team wishes to recruit a focussed and committed Support Worker to support ESOL learners with their studies, as soon as possible.

Working under the direction of ESOL tutors, the post holder will be responsible for providing in-class support to ESOL learners, helping to identify needs, and communicating effectively with the class tutor to provide the best possible learning experience.

ESOL is taught from Pre-Entry to Level 1. There will be a maximum of 9 support hours per week across this range of levels, plus paid meeting and CPD hours.
There will generally be no more than 8 learners per class and classes will be levelled to ensure that the ability range is manageable.

We are interested in talking to candidates who can work under direction, are empathetic to the needs of learners, communicate well, and can assist learners to reach their potential in a community learning environment. An awareness of strategies that could be used to support learning a language would be helpful.

In return for your commitment, we can offer you a position in a friendly and committed team, a competitive salary, and an annual programme of continuous professional development opportunities.
