Job Description
Commencing: September 2024

Mill Green School is an impressive, well-resourced special school situated in St Helens, Merseyside providing high quality specialist education, care and therapy for children and young people aged 14 - 19 years with a wide range of learning difficulties including autism, PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, sensory impairments and physical disabilities.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Healthcare Assistant to join our busy, demanding and rewarding school, starting in September 2024.

Under the direction of teachers and senior staff, you will provide support to individuals and groups of children to access outcomes as outlined in each individual’s Education Health Care Plan.

You will support pupil’s education, health, medical, physical and general care needs following agreed plans, promote effective communication for all pupils using a range of agreed strategies and will be predominantly based in our Medical Room / PMLD Class, with daily opportunities to support young people across the school.

Whilst we particularly welcome applicants with experience of working with children and young people, it is more important that you have a child centred approach in working with our very special children as a full programme of training and development will be provided.

Please see details of working pattern below to be worked 39 weeks per year during term time including 5 annual professional development full days:
• Hours per Week – 37
• Working Pattern – flexible, with core hours between 8.30am to 3.30pm each day

You will also be required to work until 5:30pm on some occasions in order to undertake training, meet with class teams or attend scheduled parents’ evenings. These dates will be planned in advance, be taken into account with regards to flexible working hours and you will have plenty of notice of these dates.

Why Mill Green School?
We know as a member of the Mill Green team, you are going to do great things. In addition to joining a friendly, supportive and dedicated team, you can expect:
• A comprehensive induction programme, ensuring that you have the support you need to settle into your role
• A programme of continued professional development including access to coaching and mentoring, an e-learning platform and online training courses. All staff access a rolling programme of role-specific CPD and behaviour management support.
• Employee Assistance Programme to support in and outside of school
• An annual, paid ‘well-being day’
• Flexible working (staggered hours): Outside of our core hours, staff are able to start or leave early in order to be flexible around their needs.
• Opportunities for career development
• To be part of a well-supported, valued team.
