A really exciting, and very rare, opportunity has arisen to join TESSA - Vision Support as an outreach teacher and be part of the wider TESSA team within St Helens.
You will be available to start on 1st January 2024 or sooner if possible.
The post is for 2 or 3 days a week or full time to work in a peripatetic role with schools, early years settings, colleges and families (0-25) to build their capacity to meet the needs of children and young people who have a vision impairment.
You will successfully provide specialist knowledge and advice to education settings and families, promoting and modelling inclusive practices, enabling them to support the vision needs of children and young people so they can fully access education and learning as well as skills for an independent life.
You will need to have the ability to challenge, motivate and inspire teachers, teaching assistants, parents/carers and professionals across TESSA and beyond,
Essentially you will:
• Have recent experience in a school or in a similar local authority role
• Hold the mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Vision Impairment (QTVI)
• Alternatively, you will have the confidence and commitment to study part time for two years from September 2024 with the University of Birmingham, putting in the hard work to gain the knowledge and skills to become a QTVI
• Have a secure knowledge of inclusive practice and the national curriculum
• Have received recent CPD across all areas of SEND
• Have a flexible and open-minded approach
• Be willing to work closely and collaboratively with other colleagues in TESSA
• Work flexibly between home, office and schools in line with St Helens’ Ways of Working
Working as part of the TESSA - Vision Support, you will work closely with specialist support workers, technical officer, mobility and orientation officer to ensure that children and young people’s vision needs are accurately assessed and appropriately supported across all phases of education and in preparation for adulthood.
