Job Description

Required as soon as possible - a Level 2 TA to work in our Reception class with a child who has complex learning, social, and sensory needs. This child has a detailed EHCP in place.

This post is subject to funding and will cease in line with this or when the child leaves the school.

The governors of this Community Primary school wish to appoint an enthusiastic and resourceful person who can ensure that children can access their learning.

You will be able to demonstrate the following if requested:

Ø You need to be a calm, patient and resilient, able to work well within a team and have the ability to make a positive contribution to the life of the school.

Ø A qualification to NVQ L2 in Teaching Assistance as a minimum

Ø Experience working with children with additional needs

Ø It is a requirement that you can evidence that you have worked with children with SEND.

Ø It is requirement that you can evidence of your work in the classroom as a 1-2-1 [photos of your/child’s work included with your application]

Ø Team Teach and First Aid training may be a requirement of the post – candidates need to be willing to attend course

Ø You will need to be flexible and open to change

Ø Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding

Ø Have excellent verbal communication skills

Ø You will need to be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device.

MAIN PURPOSE

To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for SEND pupils. To provide learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as those with moderate and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication, sensory or physical disabilities.

JOB PROFILE

Key Duties

1. Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils' responses, as appropriate.

2. Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour.

3. Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress/activities.

4. Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the teacher.

5. Support children in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher, as appropriate.

6. Share information about children with other staff, parents/carers, internal and external agencies, as appropriate.

7. Understand and support independent learning and inclusion of all children, as required.

8. Work with children on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist or similar.

9. Attend to children's personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters, reporting problems to the teacher, as appropriate. Physically assist children in activities.

10. Administer medication in accordance with an agreed plan under the direction of a healthcare practitioner and following appropriate training.

11 Update pupil records.

12 Undertake moving and handling activities, as required.

Support For The School

ü Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person (as named in the policy concerned)

ü Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

ü Contribute to the school ethos, aims and development/improvement plan

ü Appreciate and support the role of other professionals

ü Attend relevant meetings as required

ü Participate in training and other learning activities as required

ü Assist with the supervision of pupils out of directed lesson time, including before and after school if appropriate and within working hours

ü Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required

ü Work with other pupils in a ‘Team around the Child’ approach

The post holder may reasonably be expected to undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility that may be allocated from time to time.
