The Refugee Resettlement Service delivers several schemes in St Helens, including refugee resettlement programmes and Homes for Ukraine. The Service provides and commissions a range of services supporting the integration of refugees in the borough.
The post of Refugee Employment and Skills Officer provides an opportunity to make a real difference to the work that the Refugee Resettlement Service delivers, and to communities in St Helens. This new post consolidates economic integration as a key priority for the Service in the coming years.
The successful candidate will work with local stakeholders to identify and tackle the barriers that refugees and other displaced persons face, when looking for work and to develop their skills. The post holder will engage with employers, training providers and other agencies, as well as with refugees and other displaced people in the borough.
The role combines strategic approaches to economic integration, service planning, commissioning, and operational delivery of projects that aim to enable refugees to fulfil their aspirations and contribute to the economy of St Helens.
The ideal applicant will have a good knowledge of the barriers that refugee face when looking for employment, and of approaches to tackling those barriers. Candidates are also expected to evidence strong leadership, networking, and intercultural skills, among others.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people and local communities, and it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of working with refugees and also of working in employability, training and related areas.
This role allows for hybrid working, combining working from home with access to an agile work hub. We welcome applications from candidates who have refugee background.
