Making A Difference as A Youth Justice Officer in St Helens Youth Justice Service
St Helens Youth Justice Service is a small team of multi-agency professionals. We share a passion for helping and supporting children and their families and victims of youth crime, to improve their lives and make communities safer. To do this, we work hard to prevent and reduce youth crime by pro-active engagement, providing creative and effective interventions and programmes which are restorative, trauma informed and which take a whole family approach.
Following the recent announcement by The Ministry of Justice on the launch of the Turnaround Programme, we have an exciting opportunity within the Youth Justice Service to recruit a Youth Justice Officers on a fixed term basis until March 2025.
The Turnaround Programme provides support to children and young people on the cusp of the youth justice system, working collaboratively with a range of key agencies with the aim to divert young people away from offending.
We are seeking a dynamic youth Justice Officer who will bring knowledge and understanding of holistic assessments along with experience of delivering interventions that are relationship based and trauma informed to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
Based within the Youth Justice Service the post holders will be required to effectively manage a caseload of young people (between the ages of 10-17), who are subject to a range of Out of Court Disposal outcomes. The ability to complete holistic assessments, develop intervention plans with young people and deliver a range of interventions using a strength based approach to support desistance are crucial.
Child First principles are at the heart of the work we do with children, young people and their families so the candidates should have relevant experience of working with and engaging young people and their families and have a clear understanding of some of the complex issues affecting young people today. Risk management, public safety and safeguarding are fundamental to our work and candidates need to be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of these requirements as they are integral to the posts being offered.

All posts are exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
To be successful in this new post, you will…..
· Have at least 2 years’ experience of working with children and their families in assessing needs, planning interventions and reviewing the effectiveness of the supervision process.
· Have experience of working within a Criminal Justice Setting and within a multi-agency setting.
· Provide evidence of a professional qualification relevant to working with children
