Job Description
St. Helens Council Music Service is looking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced tutors to join their team from January 2022. We currently have two vacancies for keyboard and guitar tutors.

The guitar post is approximately one day of teaching and the keyboard post is to cover an afternoon of teaching.

Due to the nature of the work, we would consider the keyboard post as additional employment for a suitable candidate for the Guitar post.

The main duties of the posts include teaching in the borough’s schools, through individual and group lessons. In addition to this, the tutors would also be expected to deliver whole class Wider Opportunities: First Access programmes as required. You will need to demonstrate your ability to deliver the music curriculum through a year-long programme of instrumental learning, singing, general musical understanding and the use of creative elements such as composing and improvising. You will have experience of working with whole classes and large groups, the ability to prepare and teach in a wide variety of musical styles, as well as being able to inspire others through your own musical ability.

Applicants should have excellent subject knowledge, the ability to perform and inspire on their principal instrument to a high standard and relevant experience of:
· instrumental repertoire;
· the ability to play all instruments within their instrumental discipline;
· work with large groups;
· the ability to work with young people in challenging circumstances;
· developing, delivering and sustaining instrumental projects and teaching
· knowledge and experience of a range of assessment and accreditation models including Music Medals, graded music examinations and Arts Award;
· conducting and directing a variety of different ensembles and standards.

In addition to this, the post holder will be able to demonstrate their initiative, have the skill to work independently, yet liaise closely with relevant team members, schools and the general public.

This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Council employees are required to abide by the ethical standards embodied by the 7 NOLAN principles of conduct in public life. These include selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

We welcome applications from the BAME community.

The post is subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
