Job Description
Located in the heart of the Northwest and close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council, which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.

Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

The Refugee Resettlement Service delivers several schemes in St Helens, including refugee resettlement programmes and Homes for Ukraine. The Service provides and commissions a range of services supporting the integration of refugees in the borough.

We are recruiting for two Refugee Integration Officers to join our expanding team. These new roles provide an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of refugees and asylum seekers, as well as local communities, in the borough.

The successful candidates will work directly with our service users, including refugees, asylum seekers, and other displaced persons to help them integrate in the borough. Role holders will provide wraparound support, advice and signposting to individuals and families, with regards to a range of integration areas, including housing, welfare benefits, accessing health services, family services, education, and general orientation in the community.

These roles also involve working with local communities and organisations with a view to removing the barriers to full integration that refugees and other displaced persons experience.

The ideal applicant will have a deep knowledge and understanding of the needs of refugees and asylum seekers and the barriers that they face to integrate in their communities. Candidates are also expected to evidence strong communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills, among others. Fluency in a major refugee language, such as Arabic or Ukrainian, although not strictly essential, would be a distinctive advantage.

These roles present unique opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people and local communities, and it is expected that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience of working with refugees and/or asylum seekers and various services.

This role allows for hybrid working, combining working from home with access to an agile work hub. We welcome applications from candidates who have refugee background.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Saulo Cwerner, Team Manager of the Refugee Resettlement Service: 07841 535140 or SauloCwerner@sthelens.gov.uk.
