Making A Difference as a Cook at Kershaw Day Centre
We have a fantastic opportunity for a cook at St Helen`s Borough Council. This is a full-time permanent post, working Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 3.00 pm.
The award-winning day centre supports adults with a range of age-related health conditions including; Dementia. At Kershaw Day Support Centre, we’re looking for a passionate cook to join our team.
The day centre has consistent been awarded a 5-star rating by the Food Standards agency for the past 10 years.

What are the duties?
St Helens Borough Council, Kershaw Centre are looking for an experienced cook, to provide a catering service to ensure that people who access our day centre receive a well-balanced nutrition meal.

What are your responsibilities?
• Skilled in cooking fresh daily produce e.g. preparation of menus, portion control and the provision of special dietary meals where appropriate.

• Following set portion control and ensuring all food is served to a high standard.

• To be responsible for stock control, monitoring and recording using better food standards, and day-to-day production schedule for each menu.

• Record keeping for the ordering, receipt of supplies, stock-taking orders etc.

• Responsibility for health and safety and control of infection control and hygiene ensuring that St Helen`s Borough Council HACCP is implemented.

• Key holder opening the day centre at the start of the working day.

What skills do you need?
• Previous experience as a cook, ideally at a care home, school, college.
• Valid Food Hygiene certificate
• Working hours will be 8.00 am until 3.00 pm.
• Promote a person-centred approach throughout the service.
• Skilled in preparing a variety of meals including those from cultural, ethnic, and eastern European backgrounds.
You will have previous experience or understanding of vulnerable people either adults or children. We require you to be passionate about supporting people. Cheerful and compassionate, you will possess sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving abilities and be able to pay attention to detail including infection control measures.

Kershaw Day Support Centre Care provides exceptional care and support for people through daily planned hobbies and interests, special events, and more. We have a fantastic team in place, and you’ll receive great support and guidance from your peers and management team.
