Job Description

At St Helens Borough Council we are committed to working as an integrated team to deliver the best outcomes for our children.

As part of the Councils continued focus on improving the services we provide to the children, young people and families of St Helens we have introduced a dedicated service to meet the needs of our most vulnerable children and young people who are on the edge of care, in care or where there is a risk of placement instability and where possible to reunify children and young people with their families. This dedicated service will provide intensive support to children and families as well as both residential and outreach support, we are looking for committed individuals who really want to make a difference.

As an experienced social worker, you will be directly responsible for managing the safe transition of children and young people to return to their families whilst assisting children/young people and their families to identify goals and lead towards reunification and preservation of family. Although not directly case holding you will work alongside the allocated social worker to lead on the plans for reunification. As part of the Departmental wide adoption of the NSPCC Reunification Framework you will receive full training and support to embed into your practise, with the absolute aim to deliver the best possible service to our children.



Providing services for and with children and families across the Borough, you will be part of an integrated team at a time of real opportunity for new developments which will benefit from your ideas and initiative.

You will report to and be supported by the Service Lead with regular supervision and opportunities for training and development.

You will have an excellent knowledge and an understanding of current issues with families, an advanced practical knowledge of legislation and national policy developments regarding children and young people and their implication of practice. The post is subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosure and Social Work England Registration.
