Job Description
We Are St Helens Borough Council

Located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.
Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

Making A Difference as a Passenger Assistant in Integrated Community Services
Over the past few years our service has had the privilege of being more involved in community initiatives, such as the delivery of food parcels, medication, personal protective equipment, and the roll out of the COVID 19 vaccinations.

We are currently looking to recruit to a Transport Passenger Assistant post, for our team which provides a 7-day per week service.
They will be required to have good interpersonal skills and work closely with other team members/ teams across the council.

The successful applicant will work on an 8-week rolling rota and need to be able to work flexibly across all 7 days.
They will be required to work 1 evening every week for 5 weeks, with a non-working morning given through the week.
They will also be required to work 1 Saturday and 1 Sunday every 8 weeks on consecutive weekends, with a non-working day given through the week.

Weekday working hours: 7.30am – 6.00pm. Split into 2 shifts.
Evening working hours: 3.15pm – 9.00pm.
Weekend working hours: 10.00am to 6.00pm.
(Hours are subject to change due to the needs of the service).

As a Passenger Assistant, you will be responsible for the safe transportation of vulnerable children and adults of all ages, along with their personal belongings and medical aids to council day services, community services, care/ nursing homes, hospitals, schools and other venues.
With the clientele in mind it is advised, but not essential that your vaccinations are up to date, including being fully vaccinated against COVID 19.

We are looking for a passionate and caring individual, who has had previous experience of working in a care setting and/or personal experience of caring for, understanding the needs of either vulnerable children and/or adults of all ages.

In order to support professional development, appropriate ongoing training, regular supervisions and appraisals will be provided to the successful applicant.

What 2 of our current Passenger Assistants have this to say about their role:
“Working as a team with individuals who require different levels of support and reassurance is an absolute privilege.
Promoting independence whilst ensuring the service users safety and wellbeing, can be challenging at times but is extremely rewarding.” Jan

“I have worked as a passenger assistant for over 16 years, and I have loved every minute of it. Never once have I woken in a morning and not wanted to attend. I see my role as a privileged position because we transport some of the most amazing service users and no two days are the same.

My colleagues are like an extension of my family, and I feel fully supported and trust every one of them.” Mandy.
