Job Description
St Helens Young People’s Drug and Alcohol Team delivers a wide range of services to reduce the harms to young people caused by substance misuse.
The service works on an individual basis with young people as well as delivering group work, events, training to the children and young people’s workforce and support for families.

A fixed term full time Substance Misuse Worker post is required for the team.

You must be able to engage with young people, particularly those with more challenging and complex needs, to build trusting relationships and rapport, to deliver evidence based interventions to facilitate behaviour change and reduce the likelihood of harm caused by drug or alcohol use.

You will have good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and working with young people across the different levels of need as well as being able to provide early help support (with the use of EHAT/CAF) to families to build strengths and resilience. You must be passionate about helping people to make change and be able to challenge/support as required.

The successful candidate will need to have good organisational skills, be able to prioritise workload and be able to use a range of systems for case and data recording.

This post involves working with a number of professionals and services and the ability to adapt to situations as well as building good relationships is key to this post.

The duties of the post may require you to work evenings and weekends.

You must have a minimum 2 years experience of working with young people and hold a relevant qualification (Level 3 or equivalent) in health, youth work, social work or similar. You must have a passion to work with young people to make a difference to their health and wellbeing. You should have up to date knowledge of substance misuse and related issues. The desire to help young people overcome substance misuse, along with enthusiasm, flexibility, adaptability, creativity and a genuine commitment to improve life chances are important qualities for this role.

Council employees are required to abide by the ethical standards embodied by the 7 NOLAN principles of conduct in public life. These include selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
