Our school has an eight-place primary age SEMH Resource Provision. This specialised provision provides a more inclusive offer for pupils with an EHCP at primary age with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in St Helens - giving them the opportunity, in time, to be educated alongside their peers as part of an inclusive environment.
Our school is looking for a patient and caring teacher to work successfully with the children and build positive relationships towards learning and education; with the aim of steering them back into mainstream school when they are ready.
We are looking for somebody who has the ability to:
- work with children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and the resultant behavioural difficulties including self-regulation needs, in order to help them overcome the difficulties they are experiencing in their education.
- raise standards of SEMH learners achievements using a range of teaching strategies, in line with the school’s policies and procedures.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day operation of the provision made by the school with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs; and responsibility as the teacher of the SEMH Provision at Ashurst Primary School
- Liaise effectively and in collaboration with the SENCO and Senior Leadership Team to set the ethos of the SEMH Provision, and work with other members of staff employed within the SEMH Provision to maintain high standards and consistency.
- Hold high aspirations for all children and ensure that all learners needs are met in line with the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, as appropriate, in ensuring a quality education for all within the provision.
The role will involve planning and delivering individualised learning on cross curricular levels across KS1and KS2 – as some pupils will be working at different levels to others/ Equally, the focus of the lessons will be to help the pupils to develop through teaching self-regulation skills, social and emotional skills and manage behavioural difficulties to facilitate the children’s academic and personal development.
The successful candidate will have primary school teaching experience and the ability to manage behaviour that can be challenging while successfully engaging with children. Within the class you will have the support from Teaching Assistants and potentially other additional 1:1 Learning Support Assistants (depending on the needs of the children). The SENCO will also provide support and guidance.
